…the BOB books and this has a very similar feel to it! I appreciate the realistic page turning sounds and the cheering at the end. Reaching the end of a book and hearing the cheering sound is so exciting for a young learner! It helps them to internalize a sense of accomplishment. The stories are fantastic. I love that the nonsense words are used for the characters’ names. This gives the story more meaning and more context. It also gives reading a purpose for those who are just starting out. We all start out learning to read and then reading to learn - The Runway into Reading lets you do both simultaneously!
Little brother is excited to read!

…resource for young readers. As a teacher, I appreciate the option to use either digital or printable books. The printables are easy to assemble, and the digital versions are also user-friendly. With data collection tools and scripts to guide assessments and activities, this series is the perfect starting point for a child’s reading journey.
The series uses stories that gradually build confidence by introducing new words and sounds. The fun characters and illustrations, practice words, and variety of activities make learning to read exciting and enjoyable for new readers. The interactive elements, like clickable sounds in the digital stories, the ABC Soundboard, and the Spelling Trainer add even more opportunities to practice decoding skills.
The Runway into Reading is an engaging series that supports young readers every step of the way, and the educator-friendly tools make it enjoyable and rewarding for all.
What Betterfly Books Is (and Isn’t)
Let’s face it—reading should build confidence, not frustration.
Strong readers embrace challenges, but struggling readers often lose confidence and give up. What if you could replace that struggle with confidence?
We believe every child can become a strong reader quickly. That’s why we created the simplest books and activities to build confidence from the start—before struggles begin. Our materials take beginners from zero to reading stories using the most common sounds, helping them develop decoding skills and a strong foundation before irregular words create confusion.
We’re also a great fit for early reading intervention, providing extra support when it’s needed most.
While we don’t offer a full reading program (yet), we provide the jets to help your child soar with any curriculum you choose.

Reading Solutions

A study in 2008 [Morgan, et. al] found that, after just 6 months of beginning reading lessons, little ones decided if they liked reading enough to want to read on their own. Those who dislike reading are most likely to struggle in school.
POINT: Our precious children need more help from us. We have the power to shape their futures by giving them a successful reading experience BEFORE they get too overwhelmed with the pace of most reading programs. If we can provide fun practice work for them to enjoy reading right away, everybody wins!

Betterfly Books’ exclusive stories promote a stress-free reading journey for each beginner.
You get books crafted explicitly for beginners to have a good time reading independently.
Your beginner(s) can play with reading as soon as possible because our books are always decodable (where each letter only uses its most common sound throughout a book).
You’ve found the ideal way to start independent reading (…with 2-letter and 3-letter words). Reading doesn’t get any easier than this.
Your missing link to reading success is a few clicks away: A.I. robots can’t make these books, and most humans won’t, either.
Your beginner(s) will experience successful, repeated decoding—evidence they can see—which builds a positive self-image as a reader! Give them that, and you can teach everything else.
You can supplement any reading curriculum with this often-missing component at the start of the reading journey (beginner-readable storybooks), or use them as a ready-to-go intervention for new, struggling readers.
Enjoy artwork that supports the story for reading, not guessing.
Breeze through materials that make it easy for anybody to help teach reading.
As a small company, we still listen to customer feedback.

If you sampled the Free Trial of The Runway into Reading and found some of it too advanced for your child at this time, no worries.
Continue a story time routine and have conversations about the stories. You can use the interactive Alphabet Soundboard from this website to quickly gain familiarity with the basic letter sounds. You may also want to use the Blending 101 resource, HERE.
Soon, you’ll be ready. If you are still not sure if you are ready, Series 1 offers access for 90 days, which is more time than most beginners need at this short—but critically important—stage of reading.

Kids can begin reading a book with just 6 letters. In these 20 books, your beginners will learn the most common sound for each letter and practice using them to read. Book 20 can be used to check whether a student has mastered each of the basic sounds and is ready to move on to more advanced material.
This series was originally developed for teachers to quickly check that each student has a grasp of basic reading so that there are no gaps in learning. With parent feedback, additional helps were added to make it easier to set up a little one for reading success at home.

These 6 books allow a beginner to get in the groove with decoding. They preserve the Series 1 concept as each word can still be decoded by using the most common sound for each letter. What’s new? They include uppercase letters, punctuation, complete sentences and a variety of words that contain VC, CVC, VCC, and longer words. Like Series 1, the first book starts with five pages, and goes up to twenty pages.
-
Series Unpublished! This series will add two-letter phonograms that are stable (like ee, sh, ph, wr, ng).
The goal is to keep this series as fun and action-packed as the first two, while keeping it and future series of books Always-Decodable for as long as possible, using speech that is as user-friendly as it can be.
Since there are many available books that have daily speech for their text, we are focusing on the books that are noticeably missing from beginning reading programs and interventions.
